The Twelve Tribes, By Mother

215 people whose tribal descent Scripture states or the genealogy record traces, grouped first by which of Jacob's four wives they descend from, then by tribe. This is deliberately a minority of the site's full-tier people — see the disclaimer below.

Only people whose tribe Scripture states explicitly, or whose genealogy chain traces back to one of the twelve tribal heads, carry this field — most full-tier people (pre-Jacob patriarchs, Gentiles, foreign officials, and virtually every New Testament figure) simply have no tribe the text ever states. Levi, Judah, Benjamin are shown as solid bands rather than individual spokes — too many people to label radially at a readable size — see the full list in the table below the chart. A tribe is an Old Testament concept; the few New Testament figures here (filled purple dots and bold names below) are people the NT text itself states descend from that tribe — Anna the prophetess, tribe of Asher (Luke 2:36), is the only one small enough a tribe to show up as her own spoke; Jesus' own family (Judah), Zacharias, Elizabeth, John the Baptist, and Barnabas (Levi), and Paul (Benjamin) are all folded into those tribes' solid bands and named in the table instead.
