Shiloh
First named: Joshua 18:1
The town where the tabernacle was set up after the conquest and remained Israel's central place of worship for roughly three centuries, until the Philistines captured the ark of the covenant (Joshua 18:1; 1 Samuel 4). Eli served as priest and judge there, and it was at Shiloh that Hannah prayed for a son and later brought young Samuel to serve under Eli (1 Samuel 1-3). Jeremiah later pointed to Shiloh's ruin as a warning of what unfaithfulness would also bring on Jerusalem's temple (Jeremiah 7:12-14).
