Gideon's hometown, where the angel of the Lord commissioned him and where he tore down his father's altar to Baal (Judges 6:11-32). Gideon later made an idolatrous ephod there that became a snare to Israel (Judges 8:27), and it was there that Abimelech murdered nearly all of his seventy half-brothers (Judges 9:5).
