Israel's first camp in Canaan after crossing the Jordan, where the twelve memorial stones were set up and the nation was circumcised and kept its first Passover in the land (Joshua 4:19-5:12). Saul was confirmed as king there (1 Samuel 11:14-15), and it was at Gilgal that Samuel confronted Saul for disobeying God's instructions regarding Amalek and announced that his kingdom would be torn from him (1 Samuel 15:10-33).
