Jordan River
First named: Genesis 13:10
Israel's principal river, flowing from the Sea of Galilee to the Dead Sea and forming much of the eastern boundary of the promised land. Israel crossed it on dry ground entering Canaan (Joshua 3), Naaman was healed of leprosy after washing in it seven times at Elisha's instruction (2 Kings 5:1-14), and John the Baptist baptized Jesus in its waters (Matthew 3:13-17).
