One of two mountains flanking Shechem from which Israel was to pronounce blessings (Gerizim) and curses (Ebal) upon entering Canaan (Deuteronomy 27:11-13); Jotham later shouted his fable warning against Abimelech's kingship from its slope (Judges 9:7).
