A wealthy Phoenician port city whose king Hiram supplied cedar, craftsmen, and materials to David and Solomon for their building projects, including the temple, in a long friendly alliance (2 Samuel 5:11; 1 Kings 5:1-12). Paul's ship stopped there and he spent a week with Tyre's disciples on his final journey to Jerusalem (Acts 21:3-6).
