A city of Asia Minor east of Antioch of Pisidia where Paul and Barnabas preached in the synagogue so effectively that a great number of Jews and Greeks believed. They stayed a long time, speaking boldly while the Lord confirmed the message with signs and wonders, until the city split over them and a plot formed to stone them, and they fled to Lystra and Derbe (Acts 14:1-6). Opponents from Iconium followed Paul to Lystra and helped incite the crowd that stoned him there (Acts 14:19). Paul returned through Iconium to strengthen the disciples (Acts 14:21-22), and names it among the places he was persecuted (2 Timothy 3:11).
