A Mediterranean island, Barnabas's homeland (Acts 4:36), where some believers scattered by persecution first preached to Greeks as well as Jews (Acts 11:19-20). Barnabas and Saul made it the first stop of their missionary journey, confronting the sorcerer Bar-Jesus and seeing the Roman proconsul Sergius Paulus believe (Acts 13:4-12); Barnabas and his cousin Mark later returned there together after parting ways with Paul (Acts 15:39).
