A town where Judah went for sheep-shearing and was met, and deceived, by his widowed daughter-in-law Tamar disguised as a prostitute (Genesis 38:12-19). Generations later it was home to the Philistine woman Samson wanted to marry, setting off his riddle contest and conflict with the Philistines (Judges 14).
