Eliezer of Damascus is named only once, when Abram, still childless, laments to God that 'the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus' -- his household servant, who under the customs of the time stood to inherit everything in the absence of a son (Genesis 15:2-3). God's response was the covenant promise that Abram's own son, not a servant, would be his heir (15:4-6). Genesis 24 later describes Abraham's unnamed 'servant, the oldest of his household, who had charge of all that he had,' sent on a mission back to Abraham's homeland to find a wife for Isaac -- widely though not explicitly identified with Eliezer. This servant prayed specifically for a sign confirming God's chosen woman, and watched God answer immediately and precisely through Rebekah at the well (24:12-27), then insisted on returning home the same day rather than delaying, and recounted the whole story faithfully to Rebekah's family, giving God credit throughout rather than taking any for himself (24:34-49, 56). Whether or not the two passages describe the same man, together they present a servant marked by faithful, unglamorous service -- content to be Abraham's heir apparent when there was no other, and later content to disappear from the story entirely once his mission for Isaac's marriage was accomplished, having sought and trusted God's guidance at every step.
