Azariah, son of Oded, was a prophet whom the Spirit of God moved to meet King Asa of Judah after Asa's victory over a massive Cushite invasion (2 Chronicles 14:9-15; 15:1-2). His message was direct: "The LORD is with you when you are with Him. And if you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you" (15:2). Azariah reminded Asa of Israel's earlier history -- long stretches "without the true God, without a teaching priest and without law," a time of national distress and violence that only ended when the people, in their trouble, turned back and sought the LORD (15:3-6). He closed with an exhortation: "be strong and do not lose courage, for there is reward for your work" (15:7). Asa did not merely hear the prophecy -- he acted on it. He removed the detestable idols from Judah, Benjamin, and the towns he had captured in Ephraim, restored the altar of the LORD in front of the temple porch, and led the nation in a covenant renewal, gathering the people to sacrifice to the LORD with all their heart and soul (15:8-15). The chapter closes noting that Judah had peace for the rest of that period, tracing the reform directly back to a single prophetic word spoken by a man who otherwise appears nowhere else in Scripture.
